Keith Goodwin '74

Keith Goodwin, ’74, has made contributions of professional expertise to the business field in a variety of areas. Most recently, he served as the 2014 Executive-in-Residence in the College of Business offering students the opportunity to have direct interaction with this respected business leader. From teaching an eight-week course and direct mentoring of his students to guest lecturing in numerous business classes and organizations, Keith has had a great impact on business students. He presented at the New Venture Competition kick-off and served as a finals judge in the competition. Keith served as a mentor to the first-place team, representing Central Michigan University, at the 2014 Alpha Kappa Psi regional competition in Chicago.

Keith is also a valued and active member of the newly created Business Round table. This is a group of dedicated CMU alumni who offer insight and business acumen for the betterment of the College of Business here at CMU. In 2006, Keith served as the Dow Corning Executive in Residence where he presented to targeted groups of business students sharing expertise and knowledge into his leadership role at Cisco Systems.

Keith was an important link between Cisco Systems and CMU. He hosted several groups at Cisco where he introduced them to the company’s operations. Among these groups were representatives from the College of Business, the Herbert H. and Grace A. Dow College of Health Professions, College of Medicine, College of Education and Human Services, Office of Information Technology, and the Office of the President. He gave the commencement address for CMU graduates in 2006.

As a key player in a global company, Keith believes that there is a fantastic opportunity for students to assume future leadership roles in the growing number of companies doing business internationally. For students to succeed in this environment they must make the effort to build personal relationships by being willing to travel, understand and respect different cultures, and ideally speak a second language. Keith has created an endowed scholarship for Study Abroad opportunities for students.
