Dick Enberg CMU Alumni Commitment Award
Michael O’Donnell '70
Mike O'Donnell founded Protiviti Inc. in 2002, a firm that deals exclusively with risk consulting and internal audit. He retired from Protiviti in 2009, but remains on the Board, traveling to Dallas for monthly meetings. Mike joined Arthur Andersen in 1969, becoming a partner in 1980 at Arthur Andersen's Dallas location. He has extensive experience in the oil and gas industry. Mike was instrumental in organizing the accounting system for Red Adair during the company's work to extinguish oil well fires in the Middle East after the Gulf War.
For many years O'Donnell has given his time, talent, and financial resources to support various programs at CMU. Most recently, Mike served as the chair of the $100-million Fire Up for Excellence Campaign where he set an example by giving a lead major gift, establishing The O'Donnell President's Discretionary Student Success Fund. Under his leadership, the campaign exceeded its goal three years ahead of schedule. His commitment to student success set the tone for the campaign and encouraged alumni and friends to be a part of this historic fundraising event.
His honors over the years include being a Commencement Speaker in 2004, induction into the CBA Hall of Fame in 2015, and serving as the Homecoming Grand Marshal in 2017. In addition to serving on the CMU Advancement Board (2005-present), he has served as a judge and panelist for the New Venture Competition, College of Business Administrations Dean Search Committee and hosts the CMU Women's Golf team at his home and Mirabel Golf Course in Arizona.
