Honorary Alumni Award

Mark Stansberry

When walking into Mark Stansberry’s clinic at Mountain Town Rehab, displayed on the front counter is a large “Action C” reflecting his support and enthusiasm toward Central Michigan University.

Mark is originally from Mt. Pleasant. He owns and operates Mountain Town Rehab, a physical therapy clinic. His plan has always been to provide personal, quality care, support the community, and grow his involvement with Central Michigan University. Mark’s focus on these basic goals has resulted in a thriving business, deep-seated community roots, and a continued commitment to CMU.

Mark studied Physical Therapy at the University of Michigan-Flint receiving his Bachelors's and Masters's degrees and then attended Rocky Mountain University for his Doctor of Physical Therapy Degree. Mark continues to improve his education in the field of physical therapy including his most recent accomplishment of becoming a board-certified Orthopaedic Clinical Specialist.

Prior to opening his own business, Mark served as Director of Rehabilitation for Central Michigan Community Hospital. In this capacity, he worked with CMU to develop “Hands for Health”, a student-managed clinic serving uninsured and under-insured members of the Mt. Pleasant community. This program is staffed by graduate students and faculty of the Doctorate of Physical Therapy program at CMU.

Mark serves as adjunct faculty for the College of Health Professions and is also on the PT admissions board. He is a Credentialed Clinical Instructor, providing instruction and guidance for DPT students as they satisfy their clinical requirements and he has mentored numerous students into the PT profession.

The Mountain Town Rehab staff has grown and Mark is proud to boast that over 70% are CMU Alumni. Giving through the President’s Circle, the CMU Chippewa Club, and Chippewa Champion Programs, Mark shows his support for the university. His commitment to the treatment of CMU athletes, employees, and the greater Mt. Pleasant community is unwavering.

Mark sees Central Michigan University as an extension of the family. His parents were both longtime CMU employees. His wife, Sue (Class of 1987), son Alex (2013), daughter-in-law Theresa (2010), and son Kyle (2015) are all part of the CMU family.
