Dick Enberg CMU Alumni Commitment Award
Kim Summers '78
Kim Summers, ’78, supports a wide variety of areas at CMU – the College of Science and Technology, admissions, athletics, the College of Medicine – and he’s a life member of the CMU Alumni Association.
Kim has been a member of the College of Science and Technology Alumni Advisory Board for five years, volunteering whenever there is a need on any committee and offering support to the Fabiano Botanical Gardens, Beaver Island Biological Station, and Neithercut Woodlands.
In 2007 Kim established the Leonard and Betty Summers Endowed Scholarship in Computer Science, honoring his parents who gave him the opportunity to attend CMU.
Last year, Kim arranged for biology students to conduct a reptile show for elementary students at a Catholic school in Grand Rapids, where he is a member of the board. He drives his friends’ children to campus for tours and mails admissions literature to high school students of many acquaintances.
After graduating from CMU, Kim continued his education at Western Michigan University to earn his MBA. He worked at GTE and Amway in computer and technology support before starting Direct Technologies in 1996.
