Community Recognition Alumni Award
Scott Winship '96
Scott Winship, '96, lends his love of music to his community.
He is associate director of Rock for Kids, a Chicago-based nonprofit organization that serves homeless, needy, and abused children.
Scott's key project with the organization is the "Youth Jam" program, which takes free, high quality music education to children in safe, constructive environments. The program aims to encourage self-esteem and confidence while children learn to express themselves through music.
Scott collaborates with Chicago-area schools, youth programs, and children's homes to provide weekly music instruction by music professionals to more than 300 children. The program offers early childhood music classes and ensemble programs.
After graduating from CMU, Scott earned a master's degree in music composition from Bowling Green State University. From 2000 to 2002 he served as a development associate at the American Music Center in New York, where he also was an active participant in the city's new music scene.
