Dick Enberg CMU Alumni Commitment Award
Elizabeth Campbell '77 and Gavin Smith '76
Liz Campbell, ’77 and Gavin Smith, ’76, are graduates of the College of Communication and Fine Arts’ theatre and interpretation program who have worked tirelessly to engage theatre alumni and assist with development and recruitment efforts.
From class lectures workshops, reunions and theatre productions, Liz and Gavin are a constant presence in CMU’s theatre and CCFA.
A freelance professional Make-up Artist, Campbell also lends her professional expertise each semester to the students of MHTV housed within the School of Broadcast and Cinematic Arts by teaching them proper make-up applications for on-air work. She’s held image workshops for graduating BCA seniors, teaching them how to transition their clothing from a student to a working professional. Liz also has served on the Michigan Story Festival Planning Committee.
Smith, who is director of the Charlotte Performing Arts Center, currently serves on the College of Communication and Fine Arts advisory board and the Department of Communication and Dramatic Arts alumni board. He also has served on the Michigan Story Festival Planning Committee.
The dedication of Liz and Gavin was evident during the 1970s Theatre Reunion that brought more than 100 alumni back to campus. The event included a banquet, rehearsals and a performance that capped off the weekend.
Liz and her husband, Kevin, also a CMU graduate, have established the BCA Campbell Equipment Fund and most recently, the Ramsey/Valle Endowment for Technical Theatre. Both Gavin and his wife, Mary, have generously supported CMU Theatre and established an endowed theatre fund.
