Community Recognition Alumni Award
George and Susan Loesel '69, '74
George Loesel, '69 MA '74, and Susan (Doll) Loesel, '69 MA '74, met at CMU where Susan was a science major and George a biology major.
After graduation, they taught for the Saginaw Township School District for 15 and 19 years, respectively. Now George has taken on a second career in business.
Through their family foundation started in 1994, they support the arts and education, and they provide support for organizations that feed the hungry.
Their gifts have made a difference for the biology department at CMU. They also are pleased with the ongoing projects at Hartley Outdoor Center in St. Charles and Camp Daggett in Petoskey.
The nominator for the Loesels wrote: "Their style of philanthropy is to get to the root of the needs, develop relationships with the people involved, and provide ongoing support for those needs or others as the needs may change."
