Emmy Pontz '09, '11
During her travels to Ngong Hills, Kenya, Emmy Pontz discovered her true calling: to offer hope and a sense of love to the children of that area. Upon returning home, Emmy founded the Hope for Huruma Foundation, a non-profit organization that spreads awareness and fund-raises to help with basic necessitates such as food, medical supplies and schooling costs for the children of Huruma, Kenya. Emmy currently serves as the executive director for the foundation and organizes all fundraising and outreach efforts.
Prior to her work with the Huruma Foundation, Emmy served as the office manager and scheduler for Michigan’s Senator Darwin Booher, a Graduate Assistant for the CMU Political Science Department and a legal assistant for the Law Offices of Joseph T. Barberi, P.C.
Emmy’s outstanding efforts awarded her with several scholarships including the Jacalyn Hart Hadden Tribute Scholarship for Public Service in 2013; the Board of Trustees Honors Scholarship from 2006-2009; and the Business and Professional Women’s Scholarship in 2006. Emmy also served as the People to People Student Ambassador to France, Switzerland, Austria, and Italy in 2005.
A two-time graduate, Emmy earned her Masters of Arts in Political Science degree in 2011 and her Bachelors of Science Degree in Political Science in 2009. Just recently Emmy received a Michigan Political Leadership Program degree from Michigan State University in January 2013.
