Jonathan Webb, associate vice president of Facilities Management at Central Michigan University, has announced his retirement and will step down from his role in March.

“CMU and the Mt Pleasant community are a wonderful place to work and live,” Webb said. “With President MacKinnon’s emphasis on implementation of the Master Plan, the CMU Facilities Management team is poised to make major improvements to the Mt Pleasant campus.”

Webb joined CMU in October 2016 following a 25-year career in the U.S. Air Force as a civil engineer officer, including service in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Just eight months into Webb’s tenure at CMU, the Mount Pleasant area saw a catastrophic flooding event. Webb led the university’s response and repair for over 40 impacted campus buildings. The Facilities Management team’s quick response ensured minimal impact on scheduled summer classes. Webb later oversaw improvements to campus stormwater systems through nearly $1 million in grants from the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

Additional CMU career achievements include:

  • Spearheading CMU’s emergency management program, including development of the Emergency Operations Plan, and execution of recurring emergency management exercises.
  • Orchestrating CMU’s COVID 19 response process by utilizing the university’s emergency management program and its Emergency Operations Center, to maximize teamwork and communications.
  • Leading the development and Board approval of the 2021 Master Plan. Partnership with Residence Life for renovations of the four original Towers, retirement of aged infrastructure including Barnes Hall, Kewadin Village and Northwest Apartments, and the initiation of improvements to the South Quad, which begins in summer 2026.
  • Focusing on campus appearance with a lean and effective Landscape Operations team, along with execution of campus appearance projects, campus signage modernization and construction of the babbling brook at Fabiano Botanical Garden.
  • Ensuring proper allocation of the annual $5.7M deferred maintenance program for campus facilities, infrastructure and utility systems.

Webb said some of his most rewarding experiences at CMU were the opportunities to guest lecture and support the students, and adding that he’s grateful to have worked alongside the CMU Facilities Management team.

“They provide a welcoming, safe and functional campus and deserve praise for their ceaseless efforts and commitment to the university and our students,” he said.

Vice President for Finance and Administrative Services Mary Hill will form a committee to assist in the search for CMU’s next AVP of Facilities Management. The search will be conducted during the spring 2026 semester and will be supported by Human Resources and the Office of Civil Rights and Institutional Equity.
