Central Career Guarantee Roadmap

The Central Career Guarantee organizes the activities, opportunities and experiences CMU already offers into an easy-to-follow roadmap designed to help you explore degree paths, build career skills and navigate your post-graduation plans. But you won't be alone. You'll have the support of advisors, coaches and mentors along the way to help you.

Below is an example of the phases and activities associated with The Guarantee roadmap. The full roadmap details will be provided to you before you opt in to The Guarantee early in the fall semester of 2026.

Phase 1

Explore interests and set goals

Phase activities may include: 

  • Attending two campus events or workshops.
  • Completing a personal reflection and career skills and interest assessment.
  • Beginning/updating a résumé.

Phase 2

Develop skills and your network

  • Build network connections

  • Milestone planning

    Phase activities may include: 

    • Completing a job shadow experience.
    • Creating a LinkedIn profile.
    • Declaring a major.
    • Participating in one community service experience.
    • Scheduling and attending a mock interview.

    Phase 3

    Gain experience and expand your network

    Phase themes

    • Participate in pre-career launch experiences (internship, co-op, practical, etc.)
    • Increase responsibility in engaging experiences
    • Increase understanding of chosen industry and employers

    • Attending a career fair.
    • Beginning employer research.
    • Identifying potential professional references.

    Moving your plan into action
