Digital Michigan​ Newspaper Grant Program

Central Michigan University’s Clarke Historical Library is pleased to offer an award to improve access to a Michigan newspaper. The funds will be used for:

  • Scanning and placing online up to 16,900 pages of a previously microfilmed Michigan newspaper
  • ​Microfilming, scanning, and placing online up to 10,000 pages of a straight run of a Michigan newspaper

Applications for 2022 will be accepted from January 10 - January 31, 2022.  Following the application process, up to five communities whose newspapers have been nominated will be encouraged to show their support by voting electronically or by mailing a Michigan picture postcard to the Clarke. The newspaper that receives the most votes will be selected and included in the Clarke Historical Library’s Michigan Digital Newspapers Database, found at
