Cost & Financial Aid
Graduate with the professional skills and experience to take the lead in your current career or make a change to a new field. Your graduate degree unlocks a lifetime of increased earning power, professional opportunities and personal achievement.
Tuition reimbursement
Check with your employer to see if they offer tuition reimbursement. You may be able to pursue a specific degree or certificate with set contributions from your employer.
Loan deferment
In most cases, if you’re enrolled in an eligible college or career school at least half-time, your loans will automatically be placed into a deferment.
Domestic main campus graduate tuition
A CMU education may be more affordable than you think. If you’re a U.S. resident, you’ll pay in-state tuition—no matter which state you call home. And we offer a wide range of graduate assistantships and other financial aid opportunities to help you get here.
Master's/Specialist (per credit hour) | Doctoral (per credit hour) | |
---|---|---|
U.S. resident tuition* | $793 | $895 |
International tuition | $1000 | $1,080 |
* This applies to all graduate students who are U.S. residents. This does not apply to specialty programs with unique tuition rates.
The international rate applies to students who are not eligible for the U.S. resident tuition rates, as outlined by the CMU Resident Status Policy.
Note: The president may vary these tuition rates according to cohorts, markets, programs, locations, or terms of contracts.

Graduate assistantships and on-campus employment
Many graduate students can offset the cost of their education through graduate assistantships or on-campus employment.
Graduate assistantships often provide a stipend and tuition waiver which can be applied to the classes you’re taking for your program. As a GA you might teach, research and/or perform administrative tasks which can help you get a head start in the job market.
On-campus employment gives you the opportunity to learn and work in a higher education environment. Many positions are flexible and will work around your class schedule.
