How to apply

Prospective international students should apply at least six months before the semester in which they wish to enroll. This allows enough time to receive and consider all the materials that are part of the application. In addition, this allows enough time for students to apply for their student visa.​ Your application will be reviewed once all documents have been received. 

Step 1: Application for admission

Submit an online application to the Undergraduate Bridge program and the accompanying application fee. The fee may be paid by credit card (at the end of the online application), or by check/money order payable to Central Michigan University and written from a U.S. bank.

Application deadlines: Apply by May 15 if you are beginning classes in the fall semester. Apply by October 1 to begin classes in the spring semester.

Step 2: Official transcripts

Official transcripts should be sent directly to the Admissions Office by all secondary and post-secondary institutions which you have attended. Transcripts must include English translations. 

You must mail your official transcripts from the school(s) you attended in an envelope sealed by the school(s) or have the school(s) send them directly to CMU at the address below. You must not open this envelope before sending it to CMU.

The school(s) you attended may also send them as official electronic copies. Make sure they come directly from the institution(s) and NOT from a personal email address. Electronic copies can be sent to isr@cmich.edu.

Step 3: Proof of English proficiency

If you are not from a country where English is considered a primary language, you must demonstrate English proficiency. You have various options for showing English proficiency. Please note that if your scores are below the minimum for full admission (or if you choose not to take an English test), you can still be admitted to our English Language Institute to enhance your English skills.

Notification of admission

You will be notified of your admission electronically. You will then be contacted with further instructions regarding the steps to obtain your I-20, which is required to obtain your student visa.​

The I-20 will not be issued until after you are accepted and the required financial support information is received.  After admission, you should monitor your email for additional information regarding the I-20 process.
