So you have browsed through cmich.edu and go.cmich.edu, and maybe even visited campus, and discovered Central Michigan University to offer big-university opportunities in a small-university atmosphere. Welcome to Central!
You are ready to begin your application and we can walk you step by step through the process. It all starts here – apply.cmich.edu.
You will find a complete checklist – designed specifically for transfer students – linked at the right but here are a few important notes to keep in mind.
Central Michigan University typically receives the third-highest number of applications among all the state’s public universities – 19,000 applications per year for a freshmen class of approximately 3,700. Prospective freshmen are encouraged to apply early in the fall of their senior year.
What goes into the admissions process?
Each application is carefully reviewed on its own merit using a holistic approach. The admission process takes into account the following: academic achievement in the most demanding subjects, ACT or SAT scores, caliber of high school program, school official recommendations, exceptional talents, involvement beyond the classroom, leadership potential, record of good citizenship, overall academic achievement, pre-CMU course selections and trends in academic progress.
The minimum GPA requirement for transfer students is a 2.3. If you have earned less than 24 credit hours, you may still transfer but will need to provide an official copy of both your college and high school transcripts.
Although an admissions essay is not required, applicants may send a separate sheet to provide any information that should be considered while reviewing your application. You may wish to include extracurricular and leadership activities, employment, or explain special situations that impacted your academic record.
When should I apply?
Transfer students are encouraged to apply six months prior to the start of the term in which they wish to begin their studies. You are more than welcome to submit your application for review at any time. CMU grants admission on a rolling basis, meaning that we will admit students for the next available semester of study as applications arrive.
I am coming to campus – can I drop off my application in person?

When will I hear an answer on my application?
