Painting and Drawing
Make your vision come to life on the page or canvas
You will grow in four open-air studios, building your portfolio as you expand your understanding of color theory, perspective, and composition.
As a Central Michigan University painting and drawing student, you'll build your understanding of color theory, perspective and composition while working in one (or all) of our four open-air studios.
With guidance from our dedicated faculty, you'll develop your own personal perspective and direction while participating in research, experimentation and challenging the notions of studio practice.
Even though you are studying painting, you can work across disciplines including, printmaking, sculpture, fibers, digital and time-based processes and we give you a space to store your materials and develop your projects.
Study in Italy
Your learning isn't limited to the studio, though. Learn about our annual Summer trip to Italy to create artwork in a true Renaissance city. Email Department Chair, Brian Elder, to learn more about this annual opportunity.
