Jazz Ensembles

Jazz has been a part of CMU since 1956. Students at CMU can participate in - Jazz Lab I, Jazz Central, JazzBone ensemble, and jazz percussion groups.

Jazz Central & Jazz Lab 1

Jazz has been a part of Central Michigan University since 1956 when the "Swingin' Chips" were organized. Students at CMU can participate in - Jazz Lab I, Jazz Central, JazzBone ensemble, and jazz percussion groups. Auditions for jazz bands generally take place the first week of classes.

Jazz highlights include:

  • A performance at the Ford International Montreux-Detroit Jazz Festival.
  • CMU/Phi Mu Alpha Jazz Weekend in February.

CMU ensembles are open to all university students by audition.
