Media Hall of Fame - Perry Alexander Farrell

Picture of a man wearing glasses and a suit.Perry Alexander Farrell, 1980, Journalism: Farrell is the Editor-in-Chief for the Sound Mind Sound Body (SMSB) Magazine, where he is responsible for coverage of SMSB, which trains student football athletes on and off the field, including college prep courses and national tours to colleges across the country.

Farrell found himself often in the world of sports. Shortly after graduating, he worked as a beat writer for the Detroit Free Press, covering the Detroit Pistons, the NBA, and NCAA basketball. From 2006-2019, Farrell was a sports writer for the Detroit Free Press, reporting on college basketball and writing columns and blog articles about high school sports. Farrell was also a talk show host of “Sports Vibe,” an hour-long radio show on WGPR-FM 107.5 from 2007-2009 and a host for WJR-AM 760.

Farrell was a lecturer at Wayne State University from 2019-2024, where he taught a beginning newswriting course and a sports writing course. While at WSU, he was also an internship coordinator, helping students find positions in radio and television stations and Public Relations firms.

Farrell authored Tales from the Detroit Pistons (2004), which was later revised and republished in 2014.
