CMU Shout-Outs Recognition Program

Have you ever wanted to send a quick note to someone at CMU to say thank you or congratulations...and then got busy and forgot? Wouldn’t it be great if there was a quick and easy way to reach out to recognize others? Well, now there is....Introducing CMU SHOUT-OUTS!

How does it work?

Anyone with a CMU email can send a “CMU Shout-Out” to anyone at CMU. The sender completes the form requiring the sender's name and CMU email, the name and CMU email of the recipient, and includes an open space for the sender to write a message. Along with your personal note, you also have a choice of several graphics to include: 

How quickly will they receive it? 

CMU Shout-Outs are delivered almost immediately to their CMU email address as a message from CMU SHOUT-OUTS, along with your message and selected graphic. There is also a link at the bottom of the email to encourage people to send additional Shout-Outs. 

Does anyone else get a copy of the message? 

No, the message only goes to the recipient. We had considered creating a system where you could also copy in their supervisor, but we wanted this to just be between individuals. The Office of Professional Development can see the results of the CMU Shout-Outs from the Qualtrics database. 

Is there a cost to send it?

No! CMU Shout-Outs are completely free to send, and you can send as many as you would like, and we encourage it! The program is housed internally, so there are no additional costs to use this program. 

Why was this created?

When you take a moment to recognize a colleague, you help build a culture of appreciation and belonging at CMU. Every shout-out helps make our university a more connected and supportive place to work. By uplifting one another, we can all work to create an environment rooted in gratitude, positivity, and mutual respect – essential elements of a caring university.

This initiative directly supports CMU’s Strategic Priority 3: Enhance Organizational Culture — Raise our national profile as a vibrant and nurturing university community where all members feel valued, empowered to thrive, and experience a strong sense of belonging.
