Michigan Finance Scholars
Michigan Finance Scholars is a selective cohort experience for students who want to deepen their technical skills and prepare for competitive careers in finance.
Through workshops, competitions, networking opportunities and hands-on investment experiences, students strengthen the analytical and communication skills connected to careers in corporate finance, investment banking, asset management and commercial banking.

Michigan Finance Scholars helps students apply classroom knowledge in professional-style environments through collaboration, presentations and experiential learning opportunities connected to the finance industry.

Networking and corporate visits
Michigan Finance Scholars connect with professionals and alumni through networking events, employer panels and visits to financial firms and organizations. These experiences give students a closer look at careers in finance, help them build professional relationships and provide insight into the skills and expectations that shape the industry.
Investment experience
Many Michigan Finance Scholars also participate in the Student Managed Investment Funds, helping manage more than $4 million in student-run portfolios across equity, fixed income and alternative investments.

Michigan Finance Scholars is designed for students who want to challenge themselves, deepen their technical skills and prepare for highly competitive finance opportunities.
The program is selective and focused on students who are ready to invest serious time and effort into professional growth, experiential learning and collaborative preparation.
Who can apply?
Undergraduate CMU students with a minimum 3.50 GPA.
Application process
Students applying to Michigan Finance Scholars complete:
- A résumé submission
- An interview
- A 50-question assessment covering math, finance, accounting, critical thinking and current events
Applications open at the beginning of the fall semester, and the assessment is administered annually in mid-September.
