Student managed investment funds

Manage real investments. Defend your decisions. Learn how markets move in real time.

CMU finance students actively manage investment funds while building experience in equity research, portfolio strategy, financial modeling and professional presentation. Through hands-on analysis, industry mentorship and team-based decision-making, students gain experience that mirrors the expectations of competitive finance careers.

Real-world investing experience

The Student Managed Investment Funds give students the opportunity to apply classroom concepts in an active, collaborative investment environment. Students research companies, analyze industries and present investment recommendations while learning how professional investment teams operate.

Weekly meetings challenge students to think critically, communicate clearly and defend their analysis in front of peers, faculty, alumni and industry professionals while building experience with portfolio management, valuation and investment strategy.

Three funds. Different strategies.

Each student-managed fund offers experience with different investment approaches, portfolio strategies and areas of the market.

Celani Fund

Established through a gift from CMU alumnus Tom Celani, the Celani Fund focuses on large-cap equity investing and is benchmarked against the S&P 500. Students analyze public companies, evaluate market trends and gain experience managing a concentrated investment portfolio with more than $3 million in assets.

My involvement in the Student Managed Investment Funds gave me incredible opportunities to grow through travel, leadership, networking and competitions. More than anything, those experiences helped shape my college journey and shape my time at CMU.
