Central Bound for Advisors
Central Bound is a collaborative partnership between Central Michigan University and select community colleges designed to give students a clear, supported pathway to a bachelor’s degree either online or in person at our main campus in Mt. Pleasant. Through Central Bound, students can take classes at both schools—or one at a time—saving money, staying local, and moving closer to their CMU degree.
High school advisors
Central Bound offers a structured pathway that makes the transition to college smoother:
Clear transfer guidance: Advisors can help students plan their first-year and dual enrollment courses with confidence, knowing which classes will apply toward a CMU degree.
Early connection to CMU resources: Students gain access to CMU advising and support services from day one, easing the transition from high school to college.
Cost-effective planning: Students complete lower-division credits locally, which can help families manage tuition while keeping students on track for a bachelor’s degree.
Simplifies advising conversations: Central Bound provides a framework that helps you answer common questions about transfer, degree pathways, and support services.
Community college advisors
Central Bound strengthens transfer planning and supports student success:
Ensures degree alignment: Advisors can help students select courses that are guaranteed to count toward their CMU degree, reducing the risk of lost credits.
Reduces uncertainty: Students have a clear path forward, helping them stay enrolled and complete their associate degree while building momentum toward a bachelor’s.
Supports advising collaboration: CMU and community college advisors coordinate to provide seamless guidance and resources.
Streamlines the transfer process: When students transition fully to CMU, advisors know their academic plan is already mapped and supported.
How billing works
Students receive separate bills from CMU and their community college.
Each school has its own tuition, fees, and financial aid policies.
A student's home school—the one that manages their financial aid—should be their first point of contact with billing questions.
CMU and its partner schools work together through federal financial aid consortium agreements to make sure student aid is applied correctly.
How credits apply
Courses taken at the community college are mapped into CMU degree pathways.
CMU advisors help students choose courses that satisfy both community college and CMU requirements.
This ensures the credits earned move seamlessly toward the student's bachelor’s degree.
Resources and support
CMU advising: Students plan their CMU degree early with one-on-one support.
Community college support: Students stay fully connected to their local campus.
CMU services: Central Bound students have access to resources at both their community college and at CMU.
