Current Central Bound Student Resources

Welcome to Central Bound, our program designed to meet you where you are - Whether you are starting at CMU, a partner community college or balancing both.  This page will help you understand your options and next steps after admission.

Just admitted? Here’s what to do

If you’ve just been admitted to CMU, you should receive an email soon from your partner community college. If you’d like to reach out directly, find partner school contact information here.

Your enrollment options as a Central Bound student

  • Take classes at the community college partner school while having active student status at CMU. This status is allowed for up to one academic year before you have to take a CMU course.
  • Take classes at CMU and only take classes at the partner community college should you need to.
  • “Co-enroll” and take classes at both institutions during any given term (be sure to check financial aid implications).

Next steps after admissions

Now that you have been admitted to Central Bound, you have options available:

If you are new to CMU and will be taking classes right away:

  • CMU Orientation and Central Bound Orientation.

Orientation sessions help you get started at both CMU and your partner school. Details on scheduling and requirements will be provided after admission.

  • CMU registration for classes.

If you plan to attend CMU for at least one semester:

  • You have seven semesters from the time you are admitted before you have to take a CMU course.
  • Review the advantages of being admitted to CMU through Central Bound, even if you are not enrolled.

Already a Central Bound student and want to take classes through a different community college partner?

  • Complete a new release form listing your new partner school.

  • Financial aid counts credits for only one partner school at a time. Questions? Email CMU Financial Aid.

Staying connected with Central Bound

There’s no need to worry about removing Central Bound from your account. If you’re not ready to use the program right away, it will simply remain on hold until the time is right for you. Should you ever decide that you’d like it removed, you can reach out to the CMU Registrar’s Office by emailing the CMU Registrar's Office.

Deadlines and admission requirements

  • Deadlines: Admissions deadlines apply to all application materials. We encourage you to submit early to keep your process moving smoothly.

  • Requirements: Admission requirements vary depending on your academic status. Be sure to review the specific requirements for your situation so you’re ready to take the next step.
