Extended Hours Study Room

This 1st floor room stays open later than the main library space and is a favorite spot for late-night studying. It includes tables and carrels, as well as library computers with printing capability.

Baber Room

Doubling as a study space and an art gallery, the Baber Room features comfortable furniture in a pleasant setting. Located on the 1st floor off the main lobby, it is frequently used as a quiet study space.

Clarke Historical Library Reading Room

The Clarke Library reading room is intended primarily for individuals using materials from the Clarke Library stacks. Because material held in the Clarke Library is often one-of-a-kind or difficult to replace, visitors are asked to not bring in food or beverages.

Copeland Suite

This comfortable 2nd ​floor space offe​rs seating​ for more than 80 people ​and includes movable furniture, semi-private collaboration pods, fla​t screen monitors, marker boards, and ample power outlets for the u​se and charging of mobile devices. It is designed for collaborative study but is also used for ​individual study.

Room 211 East

This room is intended as a study room for larger groups since it can accommodate up to 15 people.

This room is equipped with a computer, projector, and screen, making it a great space to practice individual and group presentations. Seats up to twelve people at two tables.

Mary Reading Dow Room (Quiet Study)

Located on the 3rd floor of the library, this room is equipped with tables, carrels, and comfortable seating. It is used as a quiet study area by students.

Individual Study Rooms

Individual Study Rooms are available on the 3rd floor. Most of these rooms are available on a first come, first served basis and can be checked out for up to fo​​​ur hours at a time, while others can be booked by graduate students, faculty, emeriti, and staff for an entire semester. Please contact the Checkout Desk on the 2nd floor or at (989) 774-3114 to learn more about our individual study rooms.

Group Study Rooms

The library has twenty group study rooms that accommodate two to twelve people each. They can be checked out for up to two hours a day by anyone with a valid CMU ID. Five of the rooms are equipped with a 40” LCD screen with can project a laptop or other device. Some of these rooms can be reserved up to a week in advance. Gene​ral Library Seating

Throughout the library you will find tables, carrels, and soft seating. ​Library computers with printing capability can be found throughout the building. When using the library, please be considerate of others studying in the same space.
