The Idea Den is Isabella Bank Institute for Entrepreneurship's makerspace and innovation lab, providing you with access to prototyping equipment, design resources and expert guidance that help move ideas from concept to reality.

Who can use the Idea Den?
The Idea Den is available to all Central Michigan University students working on entrepreneurial ventures, innovation projects, competition entries, class projects and other approved initiatives.
Do I need experience with the equipment?
No. Students come to the Idea Den with a wide range of experience levels. Our team can help you learn about available tools, identify appropriate resources and determine the best approach for your project.
Do I need to be participating in the New Venture Challenge?
No. While many New Venture Challenge competitors use the Idea Den, the space supports a variety of entrepreneurial, academic and innovation-focused projects.
What should I bring to my consultation?
Bring anything that helps explain your idea, including sketches, notes, prototypes, presentations or questions. If you're still exploring possibilities, that's okay too. We'll help you determine next steps.
How much does it cost to use the Idea Den
Most Idea Den services and resources are available to students at no cost.
In some cases, projects that require significant materials, specialized resources or production beyond the typical scope of support may incur additional costs. If that applies to your project, we'll discuss options with you before any expenses are incurred.
What kinds of projects work best in the Idea Den?
Students use the space for product development, prototype creation, branding concepts, packaging ideas, competition preparation, innovation projects and many other entrepreneurial activities.
Can the Idea Den help if I only have an idea?
Absolutely. Many students begin with nothing more than an idea or rough concept. A consultation can help you identify opportunities, resources and next steps for turning that idea into something more tangible.
