For more than a decade, Central Michigan University has worked with NAXEX Global’s EthicsPoint to provide a tool for reporting unethical or inappropriate behavior.
CMU’s Ethics Hotline provides an online form available to all employees and students – and to anyone outside CMU – seeking to report activities that may involve unethical or otherwise inappropriate behavior in violation of CMU policies. A toll-free number also is available. All reports are entered directly into a secure server and available only to CMU’s Internal Audit Department (and specific individuals charged with evaluating the reports). The person filing the report will remain anonymous unless they choose to identify themself.
Reports appropriate for the hotline include matters involving conflicts of interest; falsification of records; and fraud, waste, or abuse of resources. Fraud encompasses an array of irregularities and illegal acts characterized by intentional deception. These include, but are not limited to, theft, embezzlement, bribery, misappropriation, falsifying records, forgery or altering documents, kickbacks, and destroying or removing property.
Unethical behavior related to academic matters, athletics, fundraising, information technology or research also may be reported using the hotline.
All employees of CMU have a responsibility to report suspected fraud and are encouraged to report such activity in accordance with CMU Policy 3-4 Fraud and Fraudulent Activities, available here.
CMU asserts that no retaliatory action will be taken against anyone for reporting or inquiring in good faith about potential ethical misconduct.
To file a report, use the Ethics Hotline secure website or call 866-294-9379.
