The mission of the Health Professions Residential College (HPRC) is to develop future leaders in the health professions and responsible citizens through the student success program, and that’s exactly what it did for Beth Boman, a third generation CMU graduate! Pat Cwiek, Director of the HPRC, stated, “The greatest reward for the HPRC is to hear of the success of our students who are living the mission after their graduation from CMU. It's an even greater reward and joy when those successful students choose to bring their talents, abilities and passions back to the college where they began their professional journey.”

Beth completed her Bachelor of Applied Arts in Health Administration and Master of Science in Administration. She was recently hired in The Herbert H. & Grace A. Dow College of Health Professions as the Clinical Compliance Coordinator where she will support internship and clinical affiliations for students. “Beth exemplifies the positive outcomes we strive to achieve in our residential college, so it is a true celebration of her investment in the program and going above and beyond as an undergraduate HPRC Member and CHP student. We are excited and pleased that Beth has "come home" to the College of Health Professions!” Pat Cwiek reported. Prior to her current role, Beth worked with Department of Corrections for the State of Michigan in physical and mental health departments.

Beth attributes much of her desire and love for health professions to the HPRC. During her time in the HPRC, she was actively involved in volunteerism (a requirement of the HPRC) and community engagement opportunities. The HPRC enhanced Beth’s educational experience by being a platform for connections, growth, and development, both personally and professionally. She was introduced to the Collegiate Health Administration Preparatory Society (C.H.A.P.S.) through HPRC hallmates, and this introduction led to her wanting to pursue her degree in health administration.

Beth’s advice for young health professions students is, “Education does not always come from lectures and books. Be involved and active with organizations—choose to participate in activities and organizations that make you happy and bring joy as well as education to your life.”

Having an HPRC alum return to CHP just a few years after graduation demonstrates the value of the program, and the quality of our students.
