When Shivangi Vasudeva arrived at Central Michigan University from New Delhi, India, she was chasing more than just a degree. She had a vision.
“I have been a big-time foodie since my childhood days and thought of opening my own restaurant in future,” she said. “To accomplish this, I needed my brain to get trained with business acumen, and logistics is a key part of the food industry.”
That focus led her to pursue an MBA with a focus in logistics at CMU, a program she says stood out for its “strong focus on practical learning, industry connections, and flexibility for international students.”
Now just one year away from graduation, Shivangi is already making waves.
She recently accepted a job with ITS Logistics in Reno, Nevada, where she’ll begin work as a Drayage Executive in June 2025. “This role is not just a job – it’s an opportunity to challenge myself, grow professionally, and make an impact in the logistics world,” she said. “I’m excited to apply my skills, build strong client relationships, and contribute to a company that’s shaping the future of supply chain solutions.”
Her success didn’t happen by accident – it came through hard work, deep engagement, and saying yes to big challenges. One of the most formative? Representing CMU in a project management competition. “We are in the final phase and have to present our proposal to the executive judges,” she said. “This has sharpened my analytical thinking, leadership, and decision-making skills to a great level.”
Faculty support was key to her success. “One of the standout aspects of the program is the prompt replies from my professors throughout,” she said. “It has made a big difference in my learning experience.”
That mentorship extended to experiential opportunities, too. “CMU played a very important role in helping me build the confidence I needed to navigate my professional journey,” she said. “Beyond academics, CMU provided an environment of support, mentorship, and real-world learning experiences that helped me grow personally and professionally.”
She also found belonging in her roles as a Graduate Assistant and as a member of the College of Business student communications team, where she supported social media strategy and brand storytelling. “It has given me hands-on experience in university branding and engagement – skills that will be beneficial no matter where my career takes me,” she said. “This role has provided me with real-world marketing and communication experience that goes beyond textbooks.”
Throughout it all, Shivangi’s energy and drive have been impossible to miss.
“Shivangi’s success is no surprise,” said Director of the MBA Program Aparna Lhila. “She is intelligent, personable, and has a strong work ethic. Watch out restaurant industry – or whichever industry she joins – here comes Shivangi Vasudeva!”
So, what advice would she give other students just starting out?
“Be open to what doors could open. Don’t be afraid to ask questions. Bring some energy to the table and good things can happen,” she said. “You don’t have to have it all figured out. You just have to walk through the door.”
