JNEP Frequently Asked Questions

As early as your CMU orientation, you can inform your academic advisor at CMU of your interest in pursuing the JNEP program. Current students can discuss with their academic advisor.

You will take your general education and Nursing pre-requisite courses at CMU. You will work closely with your academic advisor and the CMU Nursing program to plan your application to the Mid Michigan College Nursing program. View application information.

If you are seeking to enroll in the program, you must meet with the CMU Nursing Program Director.

If you are applying for a Fall (August) semester start at Mid Michigan College, you will have an April application deadline. If you are applying to start in the Spring (January) semester, you will have a November application deadline.

Before you can apply to Mid Michigan College’s nursing program through the JNEP program, you must be enrolled in the JNEP program through CMU. You will not be admitted into Mid Michigan College’s nursing program through the JNEP program unless you are enrolled through CMU.

The Mid Michigan College Nursing program has a selective admissions process. View the details on the required application materials and the selection process. Should you not be selected for admission, you may apply again for future semesters.

Through the JNEP agreement, Mid Michigan College holds a designated number of spots each semester for CMU students who are in the program. Students cannot independently apply to Mid Michigan College through the JNEP without enrolling in the JNEP program at CMU, and having their application processed and forwarded to Mid Michigan by the CMU Nursing Program Director.

After the successful completion of the second phase of this program through Mid Michigan College, you will receive an associate degree in nursing (ADN) which qualifies you to sit for the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN® exam). Passing of the NCLEX-RN exam will earn you the RN licensure to practice in the state where you took the exam.

Successful completion of the third phase of this pathway prepares you to earn a bachelor’s degree in nursing (BSN) from CMU.

Priority is given to students who are committed to returning to CMU to complete the BSN portion of this program.

Yes. If you are enrolled only at Mid Michigan College in the JNEP program you may continue to live on CMU’s campus. 

Yes. If you are a first-time college student at CMU, you must fulfill you 4-semester/2-year residency requirement whether you are enrolled at CMU or Mid Michigan College. Once you have completed the requirement you may continue to live on CMU’s campus or off-campus. 

Yes. You may purchase a CMU parking pass while living on CMU’s campus. You can park for free on the campus of Mid Michigan College.

If you are admitted to Mid Michigan College’s nursing program in the Fall (August) semester, you will take all of your courses at the Harrison campus, about 30 minutes north of CMU. If you are admitted to Mid Michigan College’s nursing program in the Spring (January) semester, you will take all of your courses at the Mt. Pleasant campus, a few miles from CMU.  Transportation to the Mid Michigan College campuses is your responsibility.

Clinical facilities may be located in Alma, Cadillac, Clare, Farwell, Gladwin, Midland, Mt Pleasant, Saginaw, Standish, or St. Louis. 

Yes. Mid Michigan’s nursing program has full accreditation by the National League for Nursing Commission for Nursing Accreditation (NLN CNEA). 

In 2020, 100% of Mid Michigan graduates from the Mt. Pleasant nursing cohort passed their NCLEX examinations, while 94% of Mid Michigan graduates from the Harrison nursing cohort passed. According to the National Council State Boards of Nursing, the national NCLEX pass rate was 72.3%. 

You will be eligible to receive financial aid from CMU while enrolled at CMU, and from Mid Michigan College while enrolled at Mid Michigan College. You should have your FAFSA sent to the school you will be enrolled in, and to both institutions during years when you may be enrolled in both schools.

For financial aid purposes, although you may take CMU RN-to-BSN courses in the summer semesters when you are enrolled at Mid Michigan College, your home institution during this time is still Mid Michigan. You are then considered CMU students when you return to CMU to complete the last portion of the BSN program.

If you live on CMU's campus while enrolled at Mid Michigan College, you may be eligible for additional financial aid from Mid Michigan College. In this case, financial aid would be calculated using a cost-of-attendance that includes tuition and fees at Mid Michigan College and food and housing costs at CMU. In addition to filing a FAFSA, you may apply for scholarships to be applied to tuition and other expenses at Mid Michigan College.

Financial aid is awarded by Mid Michigan College. Any financial aid funds that remain after paying your tuition and fees are refunded to you 6-8 weeks into the semester. You are then expected to use your refund to pay off any remaining balance owed at CMU.

If you are not able to pay your CMU balance in full, you may enroll in a payment plan through CMU. A payment plan allows you to pay your bill in increments. You can sign up for fall payment plans beginning June 1. Learn more about payment plans and enrollment dates. Mention you are a JNEP student.

If you are awarded a merit scholarship upon initial enrollment at CMU, you will not receive the CMU scholarship while enrolled at Mid Michigan College. However, upon returning to CMU to complete their Bachelor of Science in Nursing, you will be allowed to continue to receive your merit scholarship if you have continued to meet the criteria for renewal (varies by award but typically includes a GPA and/or earned credit requirements).

If you choose to pay a $69 per semester fee, you may continue to use the CMU Student Activity Center while enrolled at Mid Michigan College. 

It depends on the student group. You can participate in some groups that do not stipulate that you must be enrolled at CMU in order to be a member. However, some groups specifically require you to be enrolled at CMU to maintain membership. Such groups include, Varsity Athletics, social fraternities and sororities, the CMU Marching Band, the CMU Cheer Team and more. 

Yes. Be sure to have your CMU ID to verify your identity; however, your CMU ID itself will likely not be swiped.

You are unable to access the CMU Counseling Center when not enrolled at CMU. However, you can access Mid Michigan College’s services. View more details. You cannot charge anything to your CMU account at the CMU Bookstore when not enrolled at CMU. You may make purchases using other methods.

No. You are responsible for your own transportation. Public transportation options are limited.
