Community Partnerships

Our unique and collaborative approach allows stakeholders to achieve far more together to improve health than any of us can do alone!  MiHIA exists to facilitate a healthier community and region, and is done by focusing on a proven combination of elements called "The Quadruple Aim:" better care experiences, better health, and affordable care while improving the work life of health care providers, clinicians and staff.

There’s only one way to create a strong regional economy: regional cooperation and collaboration. It was under this premise that the Bay Area, Midland Area and Saginaw County Chambers of Commerce, along with Bay Future, Midland Tomorrow and Saginaw Future Inc., formed a  regional alliance. In 2011, Isabella County brought its many assets and connections to the regional alliance, making it a four-county collaboration. The members of the Alliance have worked together to build on the regional strengths critical to both individual and collective futures.

The  Great Lakes Bay Mental Health Partnership began in 2018 when it was agreed upon that there is a mental health crisis in our Region. A key driver and funder of this initiative is the family and friends of Chad William Dunn, who as a result of mental illness, died by suicide on July 29, 2013. The initiatives’ key supporters also include Central Michigan University College of Medicine, University of Michigan Depression Center, and The Dow Chemical Company Foundation.

The  Saginaw County Medical Society is the professional association of approximately 530 physicians who practice and/or live in Saginaw County. The purpose of the Medical Society is to promote the science and the art of medicine and the betterment of public health.

The  Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe  is a sovereign nation and federally recognized tribe in Michigan. The governing body is made up of 12 Tribal Council members elected every two years by the membership. The total tribal membership is approximately 3,500 individuals living both on and off the reservation. The tribe consists of two reservations: the Isabella Reservation (138,700 acres) located in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, and the Saganing Reservation (70 acres) located in Arenac County, Michigan. The larger reservation, Isabella, is located about 5 miles from the city of Mt. Pleasant and the Saganing Reservation is located on the Saginaw Bay. Government offices are located on each reservation with the Tribal Council stationed on the Isabella Reservation. The Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe is the largest employer in Isabella County. Tribal Government programs are created to serve the Tribal community in areas such as health, education, language, culture and housing. The Tribe has 60 Tribal Departments that collectively run 200 programs annually.

Our mission is to prevent suicide through education and resources and to provide support for those impacted by suicide. Barb Smith, a certified suicide prevention, intervention, and aftercare specialist and founder of  Barb Smith Suicide Resource and Response Network, facilitates our survivors of suicide loss support group. Our Networks has a team of trainers available to provide suicide prevention and awareness training tailored for all audiences. 

BlueWater Angels is a network of more than 50 high net-worth individuals and select organizations interested in investing capital in promising companies with the expectation of receiving a substantial return on their investment. Our mission is to bring together a large network of individuals to boost economic development and job creation while increasing net worth.

Since 2003, the  Saginaw County Health Department has performed six rounds of strategic planning, lead by a multi-disciplinary team of Health Department staff and stakeholders named the MOD (Moving in One Direction) Squad. Over the course of the past 13 years the MOD Squad has analyzed data and gathered feedback and input from SCHD staff members, customers, partners, and stakeholders to determine a common direction for a unified health department.
