      Interim CMU police chief named

      by Aaron Mills

Mary Hill, vice president for finance and administrative services and chief financial officer, has announced the appointment of Lt. Mike Morrow as the interim chief of the Central Michigan University Police Department.

Morrow brings 25 years of law enforcement service to the role – including the past 24 years with CMU PD. During that time, he has served as a road patrol officer, detective, detective undercover drug unit, detective sergeant, road patrol sergeant, Emergency Services Team member (SWAT), Threat Assessment Team member, CARE Team member and BIT Team member. As a lieutenant, he has led the road patrol unit, dispatch unit and investigative unit.

“Mike has a wide breadth of experience in every area of policing and has gained the utmost respect from his colleagues and staff through his leadership style during the past 24 years working at CMU,” Hill said. “I’m confident Mike will do an outstanding job leading the CMU Police Department during this transitional period.”

Morrow takes over for Larry Klaus, who announced his retirement in March after 14 years with CMU PD, including the last five years as chief.

“It's an honor to follow in Chief Klaus' footsteps,” Morrow said. “We have a very professional organization and workforce at CMU PD, which will make this role a simple transition. Our goal is to maintain or continue the positive direction set by Chief Klaus and ensure the next Chief of Police takes over a department that is well organized and focused on our mission.”

The search for the next chief of police is underway.
