Should I take the CASPer exam?
The CASPer exam is not required and completely voluntary, it is not required in anyway as part of your application process to the CMU College of Medicine. CASPer does not factor into our evaluation process. Please do not delay any portion of your application in anticipation of taking the CASPer exam. If you decide to take the test, please do so at your earliest opportunity. Test dates are available beginning in the summer. A complete list of test dates is available on takeCASPer.com
How does CMU College of Medicine use CASPer?
We believe that taking the CASPer exam can benefit our applicants, most notably we believe that the CASPer test will help our applicants in their preparation for the multiple mini interview (MMI), as well help them feel more comfortable in the MMI format employed at CMU.
What is CASPer?
CASPer is an online test which assesses characteristics that we believe are important for successful students and graduates of our program. The test includes 10-12 video and written scenarios. Following each scenario, you will be tasked to respond to a set of questions within a time limit. No studying is required for CASPer, although you may want to familiarize yourself with the test structure at takeCASPer.com
and ensure you have a quiet environment to take the test. Because it is an online test, CASPer can be taken practically anywhere.
You can see examples of the test structure or schedule your test by visiting takeCASPer.com
. Please note that there are a limited number of testing dates and times and these are the only testing dates available for your CASPer test.
What do I need to do to take CASPer?
Advanced registration is required. CASPer is administered by an external testing company – Altus Assessments. There is a total fee of $20 associated with CASPer which is not part of the CMU College of Medicine application fee. This fee is paid directly to the testing company upon registration and consists of a $10 test fee and a $10 fee to send your score to CMU. These fees are waived for applicants qualified for the AAMC Fee Assistance Program.
