Admission Criteria

To be considered for admission into CMU's SLP Graduate Program, students must have completed or be in the final stages of completing an undergraduate degree in communication disorders. Students who did not receive an undergraduate degree in communication sciences and disorders, please reference the paragraph below entitled "Post-BA Requirements for Students Pursuing a Master's Degree in Speech-Language Pathology."

Students must meet the general university requirements, have a cumulative undergraduate grade point average of 3.0 or higher in the last 60 semester hours of undergraduate credit and a grade point average of 3.00 or higher with no grade lower than a C in the major courses or courses determined by CSD to be communication disorders related.

The chart below shows the average overall GPA, average GPA of last 60 semester hours, and average CSD GPA (as calculated by CSDCAS) of the past several years. It is important to note that an individual's full CSDCAS application is evaluated as part of the admissions process. GPAs are just one component of the analysis.

Post-BA Requirements for Students Pursuing a Master's Degree in Speech-Language Pathology

Students who did not complete their undergraduate degree in communication sciences and disorders must complete at least 31 credit hours in CSD courses (Post-BA Requirements) in consultation with a faculty advisor. (Equivalent coursework may be taken at other universities and may not necessarily total 31 credit hours.) Completion of this coursework does not guarantee admission into the SLP Graduate Program, as it is a competitive admission process. For further information, please contact the CHP Admissions Office at: 989-774-1730.

Technical Standards
