Spring Programming

makeSHIFT: Grades 3 - 8

A student focused on a combination of guided activity and free maker play. The goal is to foster curiosity, creativity, and community. We aim to do this by exposing students to a wide variety of maker materials, tools, and skills such as problem-solving, perseverance, patience, flexible thinking, and collaboration. Closing this event with free play, is our way of elevating students' need for voice and choice as valued members of our maker community.

*Registration for the next make SHIFT will open the morning after the previous makeSHIFT. Registration for January 24th will open on January 11th, registration for February 21st, will open on February 8th and so on.

    NEW: Family Make

Starting January 13, 2024, we'll be open every other Saturday for families to create and connect using the tools, materials, and supplies in the makerspace. While there may not be pre-planned activities for each session, a Center staff member will be on-site to answer questions, guide participants' curiosity, and offer assistance with tools such as the 3D pen/printer, digital drawing (design and basic animation), sublimation printer, vinyl cutter, and more.

The registration fee covers two adults and up to three children in grades K-8 to explore their imaginations or tackle real-world challenges. Dive into a world of innovation, tinkering, coding/robotics, electronics, and problem-solving. Families are welcome to sign-up ahead of time or drop-in and register the day of the event if there is space remaining.

If financial barriers would limit your participation, please email us at cese@cmich.edu to talk about how we can make our programs accessible for you.
