Teacher education admission

Admission requirements and criteria

  • Attend mandatory Application Meeting
  • Complete Admission Application
  • Complete Teacher Candidate Disposition Self-Reflection
  • GPA requirement: 2.8
  • Completed 30 credit hours
  • Completion of EDU 107 with a B or higher
  • Completion of ENG 101 or 102 with a B- or higher

Pre-student teaching

Eligibility requirements and criteria

  • Complete Pre-Student Teaching Application
  • GPA Requirement 2.8(2.7 prior to Fall 2022)
  • Complete Bloodborne Pathogens Training
  • Eligible to register for Subject-Matter Methods Course
  • Participate in a clinical overview meeting
  • ICHAT Background check
  • Complete Agreement of Policies form

Evaluation and criteria

  • Completion of Teacher Candidate Disposition Evaluation

  • Completion of Pre-Student Teaching Final Evaluation

  • Completion of Attendance Log with two or fewer excused absences
  • Depending on program - Completion of one or more of the following courses with a required passing grade:

General education and special education student teaching

Eligibility criteria and requirements

  • Attend Mandatory Application Meeting
  • GPA Requirement: 2.8 (2.7 prior to fall 2022)
  • Completion of:
    1. Student Teaching application
    2. Student Teaching audit
    3. Professional Education Course Sequence with a C+ or higher
    4. Subject-Matter Courses with a C+ or higher
    5. ICHAT background check
    6. Pre-student teaching experiences
    7. Absence of any legal issues
    8. Departmental approval for all teachable majors/minors

 

Evaluation and criteria

  • Weekly Reflection with Attendance Log with less than four excused absences
  • Completion of Teacher Candidate Disposition Evaluation

  • Special Education completion of:
    1. SPE 522/581 with a C+ or higher
    2. SPE 456/458 with Credit Grade

Early release

General education and special education student teaching

  • Completion of 12 weeks of Student Teaching Experience
  • Extenuating School Circumstances/Position Needing to be Filled
  • Completion of Student Teaching Mid-Progress CT Evaluation with proficient & distinguished ratings
  • Writt­en statement from University Coordinator and seminar faculty that outlines plan for completing remaining required evaluations
