What is a FMD Digital Badge?

An FMD digital badge is a visual credential that represents the knowledge, skills, and hands-on experience you’ve gained through your Fashion Merchandising & Design courses. These badges are designed to help you communicate your career-ready competencies in a clear and credible way. To earn a badge, you must complete the associated course with a grade of B+ or higher.
FMD badges are issued through Credly a secure and widely recognized platform. Each badge includes verified details about your learning, making it easy to share your achievements on LinkedIn, in emails, or on your digital portfolio. Employers can click your badge to see exactly what you’ve learned and why it matters.
Badge Pathways and Associated Courses
FMD Digital Badges are organized by topic and skill level, helping you showcase your growth as you progress through the program. There are two deadlines depending on when you completed the course:
- If you are applying for badges based on courses taken prior to Summer 2025, the deadline is December 1, 2025.

Cotton Sustainability Digital Badge
Cotton Sustainability: A Micro-Credential Course (Non-Credit)
What is it?
Looking to grow your sustainability knowledge beyond the classroom? The Cotton Sustainability course is a flexible, self-paced online opportunity developed with support from Cotton Incorporated. It introduces key concepts in sustainable cotton and circular fashion, making it a great option for students who care about responsible and forward-thinking approaches to the industry. Even better, the course and digital badge are completely free, fully sponsored by Cotton Inc. It’s a valuable way to earn a credential you can proudly add to your resume or LinkedIn profile.
Course Structure
The course explores sustainable practices across the cotton supply chain, from growing and processing to innovations in recycling, dyeing, circularity, and reducing environmental impact. Designed to be learner-friendly and easy to follow, the course includes:
- 8 modules, each with a short narrated lecture
- 20-question quizzes (multiple choice and true/false)
- 3 attempts per quiz, with a passing score of 70% required to move on
Upon successful completion of all modules, you’ll earn the Cotton Sustainability digital badge.
When You Can Take It?
The course is available during two sessions:
- Fall I: August 25 – October 17, 2025
- Fall II: October 20 – December 12, 2025
There are no deadlines for individual modules or quizzes, but the full course must be completed by the end of the session in which you're enrolled.
