M.S. in Fashion Admission Information

Admission Deadlines

Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, with recommended deadlines of March 15 for fall admission and October 15 for spring admission. The final application deadline is four weeks before the end of the semester preceding the applicant’s start term in the MS program.

Admission Pathways

Admission to the graduate program in Fashion, Merchandising and Design (FMD) includes meeting the following criteria:

Regular Admission Requirements

  1. Submit the CMU application form.
  2. Have earned a baccalaureate degree in fashion merchandising and design or a related field, such as apparel, clothing, or textiles, from an accredited institution.
  3. Request that one official transcript bearing the institution’s seal be sent directly from each institution attended. attended.
  4. Have achieved a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale in the last 60 credit hours of undergraduate coursework
  5. Meet CMU’s English proficiency requirements if applying as an international student.

Accelerated Admission Requirements

  1. Submit the CMU application form.
  2. Have a signed major in Fashion Merchandising and Design (FMD) as part of a B.S., B.A., or B.A.A. degree program.
  3. At the time of application, have completed at least 15 credits at CMU and meet one of the following GPA requirements:
    • A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.30; or
    • A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00 and a minimum GPA of 3.30 in the most recent 15 FMD credits.
  4. Before beginning coursework in the accelerated MS in FMD program, have completed at least 60 undergraduate credits, including transfer and AP credits.
  5. Meet with the FMD Graduate Program Director to identify the courses that will count toward both degrees and complete the Accelerated Graduate Degree Program Acknowledgement and Approval form, available on the Office of Graduate Studies website.

Graduate Assistantships

A limited number of graduate assistantships may be available to regular MS students beginning in their second semester of enrollment. Students interested in a second-semester appointment must apply during their first semester.

Accelerated MS students may be considered for a graduate assistantship only after completing their undergraduate degree.
