Sport Management Partnerships

The Sport Management Division maintains relationships with a variety of professional, collegiate, and community organizations that support internships, recruitment, and collaborative projects. Students have gained experience through placements with major professional sports leagues, national governing bodies, sport agencies, event organizations, and community recreation programs.  A woman dressed in a brown and white checkered blazer reaches across a blue table to shake hands with a man dress in a navy blue suit. The man is holding papers in his left hand.

On-campus partnerships further strengthen the program through assistantships and hands-on learning. CMU Athletics, University Recreation, University Events, and Ticket Central regularly engage sport management and sport administration students in operational, administrative, and event-based roles that complement academic learning. Course projects often include community and professional partners, such as the Detroit Tigers and Detroit Pistons.

The student-led Sport Management Association (SMA) plays a significant role in partnership development by connecting students with alumni, coordinating travel and conference participation, and collaborating with the division on events such as the annual Sport Management Association Conference (SMAC)
