CMU Biological Station Housing

The Central Michigan University Biological Station provides comfortable and clean housing. Students or groups are housed in the campground cabins, dorms and campsites. Researchers are housed in campground cabins, dorms, campsites and faculty housing.

Faculty and Researcher Housing

Unit 1

  • Number of bedrooms: 2
  • Number of beds 4: (two twin beds in each room; sleeps 4)
  • Kitchen space: full kitchen (stove, 1/2 refrigerator, coffee pot, microwave)
  • Living space: shared, fireplace
  • Bathroom: shared 1/2 bath (no tub)

Unit 2 (same as Unit 1)

  • Number of bedrooms: 2
  • Number of beds: 4 (two twin beds in each room; sleeps 4)
  • Kitchen space: full kitchen (stove, 1/2 refrigerator, coffee pot, microwave)
  • Living space: shared, fireplace
  • Bathroom: shared 1/2 bath (no tub)

Unit 3

  • Number of beds: 5 (two twin beds in bedroom 1 and bedroom 2; one twin in bedroom 3; sleeps 5)
  • Kitchen Space: 1/2 refrigerator, coffee pot, microwave
  • Living Space: shared, wood stove
  • Bathroom: shared (full bath)

Unit 4

  • Number of bedrooms: 3
  • Number of beds: 6 (two twin beds in bedroom 1 and bedroom 2; one bunk bed in bedroom 3; sleeps 6)
  • Kitchen space: 1/2 refrigerator, coffee pot, microwave
  • Living Space: shared, wood stove
  • Bathroom: shared (full bath)

Unit 5

  • Number of beds: 3 (queen in bedroom 1; full in bedroom 2; full in bedroom 3 (sleeps 3-6)

Cooks Cabin (not on the lake)

  • Number of bedrooms: 2
  • Number of beds: 5 (two bunk beds in one room and one full bed in the other room)
  • Kitchen space: none (microwave, refrigerator)

  • Bathroom: shared

Campground Cabins

Campground cabins are less than a mile from the Central Michigan University Biological Station main campus. Most campground cabins house six people. Furnishings include mattresses and beds, two desks, and a couch. The men's and women's restrooms/showers are centrally located. Laundry facilities are available.

Cabin 1 - Castor

  • Number of beds: 6 (3 bunk beds)
  • Common living area: couches, chairs, tables
  • Notes: relatively far from both bathrooms; toward the back of the campground; more private

Cabin 2 - Esox

  • Number of beds: 6 (3 bunk beds)
  • Common living area: couches, chairs, tables
  • Notes: close to the men's bathroom; toward the back of the campground; more private

Cabin 3 - Gavia

  • Number of beds: 6 (3 bunk beds)
  • Common living area: couches, chairs, tables
  • Notes: Closest to the men's bathroom

Cabins 4A (Phiddipus) and 4B (Pinguicula)

  • Number of beds: 8 (4 bunk beds; 2 bunk beds on each side of the duplex; sleeps 4 on one side and 4 on the other)
  • Common living area: couches, chairs, tables
  • Notes: duplex cabins are slightly newer and nicer; close to the men's bathroom

Cabin 6 - Navicula

  • Number of beds: 6 (3 bunk beds)
  • Common living area: couches, chairs, tables
  • Notes: closest to the front of the campground; closer to main campus; near men's bathroom

Cabin 7 - Cirsium

  • Number of beds: 6 (3 bunk beds)
  • Common living area: couches, chairs, tables
  • Notes: close to the front of the campground; closer to main campus; near men's bathroom

Cabins 8A (Plethodon) and 8B (Quercus)

  • Number of beds: 8 (4 bunk beds; 2 bunk beds on each side of the duplex; sleeps 4 on one side and 4 on the other)
  • Common living area: couches, chairs, tables
  • Notes: duplex cabins are slightly newer and nicer; close to the men's bathroom; relatively close to the women's bathroom

Cabin 9 - Nerodia

  • Number of beds: 6 (3 bunk beds)
  • Common living area: couches, chairs, tables
  • Notes: refinished cabin (painted, carpeting); close to the women's bathroom

Cabin 10 - Tamais

  • Number of beds: 6 (3 bunk beds)
  • Common living area: couches, chairs, tables
  • Notes: close to the women's bathroom, painted walls and carpet

Campsites

Each campsite has nearby electricity, picnic tables, and a fire pit.

Campsite 1:

  • Has electric access: equal distance from bathrooms; back of campground

Campsite 2:

  • Has electric access: equal distance from bathrooms; back of campground

Campsite 3:

  • Has electric access: closer to the men's bathroom; back of the campground

Campsite 4:

  • Has electric access: closer to the men's bathroom; front of the campground

Campsite 5:

  • Has electric access: closer to the women's bathroom; back of the campground

    Dormitories

    The dormitories are located in the Matt & Ellie Hohn Center adjacent to the main lodge and dining hall.

    • Shower facilities are immediately adjacent
    • Dividers separate bunks and provide storage for personal belongings
