STEM Scholarship Application
The STEM Scholarship was established in 2022 by CMU faculty members Dr. Leela Rakesh, Dr. Anja Mueller, Dr. Lisa Gandy, and Dr. Choon Lee to support and encourage students as they pursue and complete degrees in STEM-related fields. Made possible through the generosity of CMU alumni, friends, and family, this scholarship reflects a shared commitment to student success and inclusive excellence in STEM.
The scholarship is open to students majoring in, or intending to major in, any program within the College of Science and Engineering or Neuroscience. Eligible applicants include incoming freshmen, current freshmen, and sophomores who have earned a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale.
Priority is given to students who have demonstrated experience with or a commitment to working with historically underserved or underprivileged populations, or who have lived or worked in diverse environments. Among those meeting this first level of preference, additional consideration is given to first-generation college students and international students. Students who are already enrolled at CMU must also submit a letter of recommendation as part of their application.
One of the defining features of the STEM Scholarship is its potential for continued support, the award may be renewed up to four times after the initial year, helping students stay focused on their academic and professional goals throughout their early college career.
Applications must be submitted by December 1, and recipients will be notified by the end of the academic year.
