Valensky Family Scholarship

The Valensky Scholarship is designed to support students in the College of Science and Engineering who are committed to their academic journey and need a little extra financial support along the way.

Each year, the scholarship awards $2,000 to a student who is actively pursuing a major within CSE. Eligible students must be officially declared CSE majors, maintain a minimum overall GPA of 2.75, and be a resident of Michigan or Minnesota. Because the scholarship is intended to reduce financial barriers, applicants must also be able to demonstrate financial need.

To apply, students who meet these criteria are asked to submit a short essay (no more than one page) explaining their financial circumstances and how the scholarship would support their education. The application process is straightforward and focused on giving students the opportunity to share their story in their own words.

Scholarship recipients are selected through a collaborative process. Each year, three departments within CSE appoint representatives to serve on a scholarship committee, which reviews applications and selects one recipient.

Applications must be submitted by December 1, and the selected student will be notified by the end of the academic year.
