Finding your Roommate
Remember Valentine’s Days in school? Your elementary teacher would give you a list of your classmates and everyone would bring in valentines in those odd little envelopes. The first thing you did was check to see what your best friends sent you. Soon, you’ll be coming to CMU and adding new best friends. And hoping that one of them will be your residence hall roommate.
RoomSync’n
If you don’t already have a chosen roommate, don’t worry, most students don’t. In fact, it’s a great chance to meet new people and broaden your knowledge of the world outside your hometown. When you start your housing application, you’ll find a link to the RoomSync app in the Roommate Search step. Use it. This great little app is your first point of contact with other incoming freshmen.
How does it work?
Once you’ve made or deferred your enrollment deposit, your spot at CMU is reserved. Soon after you do this, you’ll receive an email from the Office of Residence Life with a link to your “Residential Community Living Guide.” Read this first. It will fill you in on your housing contract, floor plans, meal plans, living with roommates and the many services, including free laundry, available in our residence halls. Then you’ll be ready to access your housing application through your portal.
In your housing application, you’ll find a link to download the RoomSync app. You’ll join our private, secure, matching network for CMU students. You’ll put in your information, upload a photo, and answer some questions about your lifestyle preferences, academic major, interests and res hall preferences. Now that you’re in the system, you can browse potential roommates, write community posts, send private chats and eventually ask others to be roommates.
If others accept your requests to become roommates, your choices are matched and sent to our Office of Residence Life. During the last week in June, you’ll be emailed your room assignment. Roommate information will be emailed the first week in August.
Making connections
Are you ready for even more interaction with your future classmates? Be sure to join our social media. We even have a Facebook group just for students who will be graduating in 2026. It’s a private group; so once you click to join, you’ll answer a few questions, read the rules, be accepted into the group and start connecting with your fellow classmates.
Getting social
Of course, if you want to know more about #LifeatCentral from current students, we’re on all the major social platforms. You can see firsthand what’s going on, who’s doing what and some of the opportunities you’ll be able to take part in like: plays, our student-run radio station, band, our student newspaper, sports, clubs, eSports and more.
