Research Partnerships

We do change-the-world kinds of work, but we don't do it alone

Every day, we collaborate closely with state, federal and private partners. Together, our work improves the environment, strengthens Michigan's economy and makes Michiganders healthier.

Saving the Great Lakes

The Great Lakes are bigger than any other group of freshwater lakes in the world. Protecting them is bigger than any one institution. Our Institute for Great Lakes Research works with organizations such as The Nature Conservancy, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and the Michigan Department of Natural Resources on a wide range of projects. We're studying the impact of invasive species like the round goby, restoring coastal wetlands and looking for ways to remediate oil spills. It's work that protects the environment, as well as the jobs, resources and recreation supported by the Lakes.

Mission critical: Stronger healthcare

To the more than 70,000 patients who visit us every year, quality of care is their most pressing concern. That's why it's ours, too. Our teaching hospital partners, Covenant HealthCare and Ascension St. Mary's Hospital, ensure you're always in the best hands. And by providing our students and resident physicians a place to train and research, those trusted institutions ensure we can meet the needs of tomorrow's patients.

Additionally, we've forged alliances with several community health organizations, including the Michigan Health Improvement Alliance, Transforming Health Regionally in a Vibrant Community and the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe.

Building better businesses

Sara Moylan '02 knew that the adjustable sports bra she developed was head and shoulders above the competition. Proving it, though, required sophisticated motion-capture technology she didn't have.

But we do. Research conducted at our Motion Analysis Center demonstrated Moylan's bra was the best and provided the data she needed to market her masterpiece.

We know how lonely it can be to launch a business or take it to the next level. Working with partners like the Michigan Economic Development Corp., Michigan Works! and Accelerate Michigan, we can help your company raise start-up funds, solve tough strategic challenges or even just give advice.
