Edit live pages in training with Sitefinity SiteSync

Moving forward, all page work will shift to Sitefinity’s training environment. Working in training gives you a focused space to edit and rebuild pages and preview changes. Editing is faster and more predictable.

Production is the live CMU website that visitors use every day. Its job is to serve web traffic quickly and reliably. By keeping editing in training, production stays focused on the audience experience and remains unchanged while work is in progress. The training environment is the same workspace used in recent trainings, so the tools and layout will feel familiar. This applies to both MVC and .NET Core pages. Page rebuilds in .NET Core are included in this workflow, but will cover all page edits.

TL;DR: You will edit and rebuild pages in Sitefinity’s training environment. Production reflects what is live for visitors. When a page is approved, the Digital Strategy team uses SiteSync to push it from training to production on demand or on a schedule for a controlled switch that avoids disruption. This setup keeps backend editing separate from live site traffic, improving performance and allowing updates without slowdowns.

What's changing

Under the new process, you'll complete page edits and rebuilds in training rather than editing on the live site. After approval, the page is pushed directly to production and then published. This maintains a stable production environment.

What is SiteSync?

SiteSync is Sitefinity's built-in tool for moving approved content between environments in a controlled, one-way process. It can run on a schedule or on demand. For this workflow, the Digital Strategy team will utilize on-demand pushes to ensure timing aligns with review readiness. After review in training, the content is pushed to production and then published.

Why this approach works

Separating editing from serving improves performance on both sides. Production dedicates its resources to responding quickly to visitors, which supports consistent page speed and uptime. Training is conducted in a live, traffic-free environment, so editing and previewing are not slowed by the server prioritizing public requests. You can review the actual templates and widgets before publication, which reduces rework and keeps the live URL stable until the switch is complete.
