The George M. Blackburn Lecture Series presents "The Devil Was Turned Loose": African Americans in the War Against Reconstruction.

Please join us for a talk by Dr. Kidada E. Williams on her book, I Saw Death Coming: A History of Terror and Survival in the War Against Reconstruction, a reexamination of African Americans' struggle for survival as they transitioned from bondage to freedom after 1865. Williams offers a breakthrough account of this much-debated period, transporting readers into the daily existence of formerly enslaved people building hope-filled new lives. 

Williams is an award-winning author, historian and CMU alumna.
