The Study Abroad Strategic Plan was developed from May 2025 to October 2025. This plan and updates were shared with the Faculty Senate Committee on Study Abroad. The plan establishes priorities for 2025–2027 to expand study abroad participation, strengthen campus engagement and international partnerships, enhance student experiences, and improve departmental policies, procedures, and safety. Implementation and ongoing exploration of strategic initiatives continue throughout the 2026–2027 academic year, with a plan update in April of 2027.

This year’s initiatives are organized around five strategic focus areas: Participation & Revenue, Campus Engagement, Mission-Oriented Programs, Student Experience & Recognition, and Policy, Process & Safety. Together, these focus areas will guide our efforts to expand study abroad participation, strengthen campus partnerships, enhance student experiences, and continue improving the programs and processes that support global learning at CMU.
