Tech Spotlight at the CMU Libraries

Did you know CMU Libraries offers more than just books and journals? Along with scholarly materials you might use for coursework or research, we also have a variety of digital equipment and technology you can check out to bring your creative ideas to life! Whether you’re working on a class project, starting a new hobby, or creating content for fun, we’ve got tools to help you shine.

For photography and video, you can borrow a Canon DSLR camera, GoPro, or lightweight tripods. These items are perfect for capturing events, outdoor adventures, or documentary-style projects! To make your videos sound and look professional, we offer ring lights, wireless clip-on microphones, and studio microphones so you can record interviews, presentations, or even your own podcast. Check out equipment to use for projects outside the building, or for use in our Sound Recording Booth in the Adobe Digital Lounge.

If music is your passion, try out the Yamaha 61-key keyboard or MIDI controller. These tools are great for composing original music, experimenting with sound design, or collaborating with your peers on multimedia projects.

By checking out items from the library, you don’t need to invest in expensive equipment to create high-quality work. We’re here to give you inspiration and support as you explore new creative directions. If you’ve never used professional photo, video, or audio equipment before, stop by the Adobe Lounge this semester for one of our Drop-In Equipment Demo nights:

  • Wednesday, October 22, 6-7 PM
  • Wednesday, November 19, 6-7 PM
Find a full list of all equipment the Libraries will check out in our Equipment Collection or stop by the 2nd Floor Library Services Desk today and see what you can borrow—you might just find the perfect tool for your next big idea!
