Sitefinity editing change improves user experience; gives editors more time.
Next week, we'll roll out a very small yet significant change to editing in Sitefinity. Any editing you'll do after the rollout will happen in the training environment—the same environment you used when you took new collaborator training. It looks and functions exactly like the live site you use today. The only change you'll need to make is the URL you log into to do your editing.
TL;DR: Starting October 27, you will edit Sitefinity content and pages in the training URL (https://training-www.cmich.edu/Sitefinity). Everything else works the same. When a page is approved, we'll move it to the live site for you. Bookmark that URL for your future use!
What’s changing and why
On October 27, instead of logging into the live site, you'll make all page edits and rebuilds in the training site. After approval, we’ll move the page to the live site and publish it. This change corrects an error some of the first publishers to .NET Core encountered when they began migrating their pages. Their live page was going blank, meaning that any visitors to that page while the update was happening would be met with a completely blank page. Now you'll edit in the training site and your current page will stay available to visitors while you work, giving you more time to do what you need to do without worrying that visitors are missing important information.
You'll use the same login and permissions you use today. The editor, templates and widgets are the same. And, the changes in training do not affect the live site until they are approved and published.
How your page goes live
When a page is ready, the Digital Strategy team reviews it, then pushes it from training to the live site on demand or at a scheduled time. You do not need to do anything extra.
What to do now
Bookmark the training site URL and mark your calendar for October 27th to make that shift. Don’t worry, though. We’ll provide reminders!
If you have questions, please do not hesitate to contact the Digital Strategy team.
