LGBTQ and Gender Equity Programs

Classroom panels

The classroom panel is made up of lesbian, bisexual, gay, transgender and ally students who are trained to provide education in classrooms, campus units, student organizations, residence halls, and community settings about identities and issues relevant to the LBGTQ community. Panels provide awareness and education about their diverse identities.

The format of the program typically includes panelists providing an overview of their lives, "coming out" processes and experiences, followed by Q&A.

Do you want to request a panel? Please send an email with the following information:

  • Name of Class/Organization
  • Date of panel
  • Time and length of the panel
  • Location of panel
  • Contact Name, Position
  • Contact email and phone
  • Audience Demographic/Size

Please contact us at least 14 days in advance of the date you need a panel, if possible.

Classroom presentations

Opportunity to go into classroom and share coming out stories and open up discussion from students about the coming out process, being LGBTQ+ on campus, in the community, and other issues.

LGBTQ+ History Month

LGBTQ+ Celebration Month (previously Coming Out Month) is held annually in October.

Navigating Triggers Workshop

In this four-week development, we will engage the Triggering Event Cycle, develop skills and tools to stay present in the moment, and over time expand our capacity to continue to engage through experiences that in the past might have deskilled us.  Sign up for Triggers 1 Workshop.

Pride Month

Pride Month is held annually in April to celebrate the LGBTQ+ community.

Safe Zone

The Safe Zone training program includes an overview of terminology, the current campus climate for the LGBT community on campus, issues facing the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) communities, and the importance of a Safe Zone here at CMU.

The purpose of the training is to provide the campus community with the tools necessary to be a Safe Zone for our LGBT students, faculty, and staff. Training includes definitions, dialogue around isms and microaggressions​,  and action tips to work towards a more safe campus.

Socialization and Liberation Workshop

Trans Week of Awareness

Trans Week of Awareness is held annually in November.

Women's History Month

Women's History Month is held annually in March.
