Biography

Ryan Michael Murphy, Ph.D. is an Assistant Professor of Business Communication at Central Michigan University. His teaching and research focus on business communication pedagogy, workplace communication strategies, and the transfer of professional skills across contexts. His courses integrate rhetorical awareness, digital literacy, and real-world applications, preparing students for today’s complex business environments. His current scholarship examines rhetorical memory in business pitches, data storytelling, and communication’s role in remote and hybrid workplaces.

My research is broadly focused on business communication pedagogy. Currently I am working on projects centered on how students and professionals communicate the value of their transferable skills, and the dynamics of work from home and hybrid work arrangements in various workplaces. I primarily use qualitative research methods.
