Biography

Kevin M. Fisher, PhD, CSCS, is a southern Virginia native who started his journey in higher education by earning dual bachelor’s degrees from the University of Virginia in Government and Psychology. After briefly working in the public school sector, he decided to continue pursuing his interest and passion for psychology and movement science. The focus of his Master of Science Degree from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro was Sport and Exercise Psychology, and his Doctorate at the University of Tennessee centered on Motor Learning. His thesis examined attentional demand during the golf putting stroke, and his dissertation compared implicit (analogy) and explicit learning strategies in golf putting. Dr. Fisher came to Central Michigan University during the fall semester of 2014, and his primary teaching load resides with courses focusing on motor behavior, performance psychology, and strength and conditioning. Some of these courses include PES 225: Athletic Conditioning for Coaches, PES 302:  Fundamentals of Motor Learning, PES 304: Youth Sports and Diverse Learners, and PES 485: Theoretical Foundations of Strength and Conditioning. Dr. Fisher’s research interests center around attention and practice structure in novice skill learning and expert performance, along with mental skills and training in sports, martial arts, and military pursuits. In addition to his teaching and research duties, he serves as an academic senator, the faculty advisor for the CMU Judo Club, an assistant instructor for the CMU Hapkido class, and a member of the Michigan Army National Guard. In his spare time, he enjoys golf, reading, traveling, running with his dog, and playing video games with his son. His favorite part of the Health and Physical Education program is having the opportunity to work with colleagues and learners who each bring a unique combination of knowledge, experience, and expertise to CMU.
